A story which starts slowly, but then holds the reader fast. Main characters - a 55-year old surgeon, a damaged young woman from the south, an attractive wife, and the 15 year old daughter, in a coma after an accident on her motor scooter. What is love? What are we?> what are our needs? A gripping plot, with no easy answers.

By Neasa MacErlean
This is a very moving, long version of the song '24 Hours from Tulsa' - looked back on by the man involved 15 years after the event. A respectable Italian surgeon falls in love with a working class woman he sees in a bar by the juke box. As he is already married and does not understand at first what he feels for the woman, Italia, the main characters (and the reader) are all thrown into a state of anguish. He tells the story, silently and several years later, to the daughter (the child he has with his wife) when she is in coma, after having a road accident. Somewhat slow to start, the book became almost addictive later on. I know Italy well and have come to think, despite some reluctance about coming to this conclusion, that Italians do understand love better than people who live in the UK, like me. This book is an example of that. While Britons such as myself might try to give rational reasons for falling in love, in this book the surgeon tells Italia that he loves her because 'You are you'. He and Italia do not work out a list of shared interests and discuss them - in time-honoured middle class fashion. By contrast, the surgeon describes his middle class friends and his own marriage and paints a highly unattractive picture of people who view their relationships as networking, a way of achieving goals and a means to an end. This is a great book - but it might not appeal to everyone. [Read in Italian]

I really love Margaret Mazzantini, I read this book after the book club I belong to suggested to read "Venuto al mondo" (In english BORN TWICE), and although the book was really hard to read, I loved it.Non ti muovere is a story about love, fear of love and prejudice , it's a story about thinking that " your social Status" makes you automatically a good person or better than others.I got the book in my Kindle and I think I will keep it because I know at some point I will read the book again
